There was only so far to go that night and it wasn’t that far. Even worse, it probably would be less dangerous to stand in the middle of the street, howling at the top of his lungs like a madman, because he and she would have to spend the night feet and inches away from one another, pretending not to know one another; not to love one another; not to have poured every bit of hope they have in the world into one another. All while demons, disguised as decent humans danced, draped in deadly decadence to the drumming of their own destruction heard echoing in the distance. Tonight love would conquer all.
