I’m not only a visual artist, I also create experimental music with my band mockART. I formed it as a music project in 2005 by myself. However, I included vocals by some friend in some of the early recordings. From the start I also created the covers myself. However, for the early recordings I changed the cover artwork at some point. In those days I only knew some basics about editing images.
After my career as a visual artist picked up around 2010 I stopped recording music for a couple of years and reactivated the project in 2018. In 2020 Christoph Dorner joined as a permanent member so we are a duo now. However, we still like to work with other musicians and guest vocalists from time to time.
Apart from the cover artwork I also created some video clips for selected tracks which you can on your YouTube channel.
But there also is another way how I have connected my musical and my visual endeavours: In 2022 we wrote a soundtrack for the exhibition views | interrupted which I shared with with painter Sonja Ackermann and photographer Christian Rocas. The music was interpreting the artworks in that show and we got a lot of positive feedback.
For the future we will also plan further projects that mix different art forms with music.
Most of our albums were released on CD, and all of them plus our singles can be found on most of the major streaming services like Spotify, iTunes, Deezer, Tidal, Amazon Music and YouTube Music. You will also find us on Facebook, Bandcamp, Myspace and Last.FM.
While roaming the world, snapping photographs, I also recorded some field recordings which I published on SoundCloud as rabirius.

The first sound recording is a Romanian song. I hope that culinary menu of the restaurant was good, as Romanian folk melody! 😀

Well, it was recorded at a restaurant in Chisinau – and it was the best one I found with local cuisine – so the food was fantastic.

Field Recordings/ Found Sound are intriguing constructs. It turns aural environment into a kind of multi-layered Found Poetry. There is a whole section of this environmental audio art on archive.org. .
Once again you have created some fascinating work to go with your visual art.

Thanks a lot!
I haven’t really kept up with uploading more recordings…
…but I still have some waiting to be edited.
Though since changing to windows, I didn’t have time to look for another audio editor – hopefully I’ll do that soon.

Goldwave is a good editor.
Have you considered taking some of the audio tracks and combining them with your visual compositions ? Just the type of original creative work that gets posted on Vimeo. 🙂

Okay, thank you, I will take a look at Goldwave.
Actually, I once did something like a video clip to one of my mockART tracks:
I haven’t looked at it for quite some time and I just noticed that it already is 10 years old and the resolution is not very good. I guess back then high resolution was not needed on YouTube. 🙂

That was very intriguing. You may find Walter Smith’s blog of interest. He has been doing digital video work that has similar elements to your piece.
