Cool. Where’s that, and how old?
-
Thank you, John.
Well, it was build during the Kingdom of Commagene – so probably during the first century B.C.

Aquila, placed there by the Romans when they were in Asia Minor to mark newly conquered territory and remind the locals who was now in charge.. Is it cool – I think so! Tony

Thank you very much, Tony.
But the column was build by the Kingdom of Commagene – so it is not really Roman. But about the time when the Romans tried to conquer that region.-
Thanks – those eagles they are so untrustworthy! Cheers, Tony

Now we here in the USA have a visual marker of times past. Wonderful. How far did you have to travel to find it?
-
Well, I got there from Şanlıurfa in Turkey – if you can catch a direct flight it would probably be 4-5 hours from here. The drive from Urfa was probably 2 hours. But I guess you could also fly to Adıyaman which is much closer.
The South East of Turkey is very amazing for me – there are so many different histories coming together and therefore so many things to discover.-
I would just love to do this one day!

Turkey is worth visiting. If you have the chance, you should do that.
Greetings,
rabirius
PS.: If you like to see all the pictures of Turkey I posted: I now added a regions tap to the menu where you can select “Turkey”.-
