New Coat of Paint

New Coat of Paint

The picture might seem familiar to you. That is no wonder, it is a coloured version of Road Blocks, a picture I posted not too long ago.

Why did I do that?

Well, you might have also noticed that my website/blog looks somewhat different. So the real coat of paint refers to the change of layout.

Originally, I wanted to see if there were new themes. So I chose one of the latest themes to see what my site would look like. A problem I have with many themes is that they also show the “featured image” and therefore the image appears twice when you click on the post. In most themes there is no possibility to switch it off and trying to hide it via CSS is not working with every theme as well (at at least if you only have basic knowledge of CSS).

So when I tried out one of the new themes I didn't like them for my blog. I also ended up in the new editor which didn't really make sense to me. So I decided to go back to my old theme, but found out that it is no longer supported by rabirius.me/. I poked around the old themes but didn't really find anything I like – or had the problem with the featured image.

So I went back to the new themes and tried to use the editor again, spend some time with it and finally understood how it works. It is not perfect (however, the menu says it still is beta – so I think it will improve) but I managed to change the them a lot and customize it the way I wanted it

The thing I like the most is that I can show you my pictures now in a much bigger size. That way you can better discover all the details I have especially hidden in most of my composites. However, there are a few pictures from 2013 I uploaded in a low resolution. Most of them work when they are stretched a little and you probably won’t notice that they are not 100% crisp. There were only two or three that looked really terrible – but I thought I leave them in the higher resolution for consistency.

When you go to a picture you can also navigate backwards and forwards now (which was a feature my old theme didn’t offer) and I moved all the widgets and the links to my social networks at the end of the pages, under the comment section.

So you can now look around a little, see how you like the new theme and (re)visited some of the old pictures and see them how you were supposed to see them.

To make it easier for you to travel back in time I created a little gallery that takes you straight to some of my older works. To include something from every period since I started blogging, I decided to choose one picture from every page.

Enjoy!

Una serie de fotos que parecen sacadas de un contexto de una mente privilegiada para captar a plenitud, la vida cotidiana y la virtual. Un paseo por tu fantasía y formar parte de ella.

Interesting the amount of effort you spend on changing your Website …
    Im quite lazy…
Anyway good works, i also like the coloured one of the past.

      Thank you.
Well, I never spend so much time in the layout. Especially, because I also had to resize the photos in the layout. But the new themes make a lot more work if you customize them. But I guess you can also use them out of the box. Depending on what you want.
I didn’t change my theme for many years, so I think some new coat of paint will be good. 🙂

brilliant images: I could look at them all day — and probably will; my fave is ‘Lackadaisical Gargoyle’ —

      Thank you, John.
Yes, the gargoyle was really cool. I remember when I saw him in a public garden in a town called Bad Orb.

You’ve got to be camera ready all the times esp if you’re travelling , though even at home ….

        1. rabirius Avatar

          Well, not really.
I take the camera when I decide to do pictures. Usually when I travel or do short trips.

          1. johnlmalone Avatar

well, that makes sense: like I take my notebook with me on similar occasions —

          2. rabirius Avatar

Yes, I think sometimes you just need to see things as they are.
When I pack my camera I look a lot more for details, frames, compositions, etc – but I sometimes miss the big picture.

          3. johnlmalone Avatar

yes, it is a tricky balance —

          4. rabirius Avatar

            Yes, indeed it is.

Yes – the larger photos are really helpful given how complex many of your images are. Funny how all the terrific photos you chose did not include any of my favorites – ha ha. I’ll just have to go hunt them down to enjoy them large size on a good-speed-internet day.

    1. rabirius Avatar

Well, I took a picture from every page and tried to avoid pictures that are too similar…
…so it is not really a best of, but it should show a couple of my part works and how my styles developed.
I hope you managed to track down your favourites. (There also is a search function under the comments, if that helps.)
