Something new has arrived. Allow me to introduce Main Kritik — a proper website, built with WordPress as a full backend, as opposed to what I’m working with here. Consider it a little showcase of what I can do on that front, so if you happen to know anyone in need of a website, do send them my way.
But Main Kritik is more than a technical exercise. It’s a place where I write about culture — broadly understood, seriously taken, and with genuine curiosity. The site is organized around two ideas that feel natural to me.
The first is Außenwelt — the outside world. This is where I cover what happens when you leave the house: concerts, exhibitions, performances, and other cultural events, mostly in and around Frankfurt and the Rhine-Main region. Culture as adventure, as direct encounter, as something that requires you to actually show up.
The second is Innenwelt — the inner world, or if you like, culture that comes to you. Records, books, films. Not necessarily the newest releases, but the works that stay with you, that reveal more with each return visit, that become part of how you see things. A quieter kind of engagement, but no less absorbing.
Now, I should warn you: the site is entirely in German. So many of you will find yourselves staring at words that offer little assistance. But I’d still invite you to have a look — if only to tell me what you think of the design. That much requires no translation.
And since Main Kritik lives outside the WordPress reader, the usual way you follow along won’t work there. If you’d like to keep up, there’s a newsletter at the bottom of the page. A subscription would be very welcome.
