    • Someone already brought this up in the comments. It could well be that the names are related. I know that some Greeks are named after classical gods even today. So it is a possibility. But I don’t know much about the Marx Brothers. I have seen some of their movies, but that was ages ago.

  1. keeping the books shut, keeping his eyes shut, silent water over any secrets… what an image I’d never have thought of.

And like the earlier commenter, I am wondering if Harpo Marx might have had any clue that he was sharing a name with a voluntarily mute god? Could harp music in Greek culture have had a use in–or symbolic meaning of–wordless communication?

Thank you for introducing us to so many deities!

Well, I don’t know if Harpo Marx ever thought about his name. But as many people do just that, I think it is possible.
However, I don’t think that a harp is somehow connected, as the Greek word for harp is ψαλτήριον which would be something like psalterion in English. But a lot of Greek gods still resonate in our time and age. By name, appearance and stories. But I usually try to shine a light on the lesser known gods. some of them have really interesting stories as well and they still have relations to modern living.
